INTERREG III A INITIATIVE

Community Initiative of the European Regional Development Fund.

Interreg III is the Community initiative of the European Regional Development Fund in favour of co-operation between regions in the European Union during the period 2000-2006.

The aim of the new phase of INTERREG consists of increasing social and economic cohesion in the European Union, encouraging transfrontier, transnational and interregional cooperation, as well as the balanced development of the territory. Particular attention is paid to the collaboration between ultra-peripheral regions and those located on the external frontiers of the Union with States who have applied to join the Union.

Among the various lines of this initiative, Vías Atlánticas falls within the Interreg III A initiative, which focuses on the development between neighbouring communities thanks to joint work programmes.
